Theoretical Physics: Fully Funded STFC PhD Scholarship at Swansea University

This scholarship is funded by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC).

Start date: October 2021

Swansea University’s Department of Physics has a call for an STFC funded scholarship in 2021 in Particle Physics and Cosmology Theory. Research can be done in any of the interests of the Particle Physics and Cosmology Theory group including:

• AdS/CFT, holography and Integrability

• Dualities in Quantum Field Theories and String theory

• Amplitudes in gauge and supergravity theories

• Theoretical cosmology and gravitational waves

• Hot and dense QCD on the lattice

• Physics beyond the standard model

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to interview over Skype or Zoom.


Candidates must have a First, Upper Second Class Honours or a Master’s degree with Merit, in a relevant discipline.

For candidates whose first language is not English, we require IELTS 6.5 (with 6.0 in each component) or equivalent. Please visit our website for a list of acceptable English language tests. We prefer candidates to have already met the English Language requirements at the point of application, although this is not a requirement.

Candidates should be UK students and meet the STFC eligibility requirements. Candidates with settled status, pre-settled status or those with indefinite leave to remain may also be eligible.

This 42 month fully funded scholarship covers UK tuition fees and an annual stipend set at the minimum UKRI level (currently £15,285 per annum for 2020/21).

RTSG support of £1,000 per annum is also provided.
